Sting has announced that he’ll release a new record called The Last Ship this fall. It will be the singer’s first album of original material in a decade.

The singer’s publicist told The New York Times that the recorddue out September 24, grew out of a musical of the same name that he’s been working on for the last three years. The show takes place in a shipyard in Wallsend, England, where Sting spent his youth, and tackles the struggling local shipbuilding industry in the 1980s. It’s set to make its Broadway debut in 2014.

The follow-up to 2003’s Sacred Love, the new album will feature songs from the upcoming musical including the title track, a folk waltz that is reportedly heavy in Christian imagery, along with a jazz-infused funk song called “And Yet” and “Dead Man’s Boots,” a song that focuses on the struggle between a father who works in the shipyard and a son who doesn’t want to follow in his old man’s footsteps. The upcoming album will also include songs Sting wrote for the play but decided not to include.
